Digging as participation

How can participation be conceived as a physical and material practice in the post-digital age? This question was at the heart of Stella Flatten’s participation in the Urbanize! Festival 2025 in Vienna.
As part of a lecture at the University of Applied Arts, she presented her research “Digging. Digging as Method and Spatial Practice”. Digging is understood here as a spatial, collective and epistemic practice that uncovers hidden layers and generates new forms of knowledge and public sphere.

In parallel, an article was published in Dérive. Journal of Urban Research.

The trip was funded by the Leibniz Science Campus “Postdigital Participation”.
