School of Reconstruction

This summer the ‘School of Reconstruction’ event was organised by the School of Architecture and Design in Brighton, UK. The event brought together 11 multidisciplinary teams who worked with students from around the world in designing and constructing new structures that reused discarded building materials. The aim was to highlight, and then to demonstrate, how the reusability of materials can be improved in building projects.

The team called ‘The Useless 3’ lead by Prof. Folke Köbberling and Alexa Kreißl explored with their students a range of practical possibilities for recycling excavated earth, matrasses and ring meshes. The results of their research are summarised in a ten-minute film.
