Workshop on Ownership and Authority
With support from the Leibniz-ScienceCampus Postdigital Participation Braunschweig, the Media Studies and Political Theory Working Group of the Association for Media Studies will host a workshop from September 16–18, 2026, at the HBK Braunschweig and the Leibniz Institute for Educational Media | Georg Eckert Institute.
The workshop will explore the relationship between ownership and authority and examine questions regarding ownership structures and their media-related, social, and political prerequisites. It will thus address issues of the common good—the second focal theme, alongside sustainability, of the Leibniz Science Campus for Postdigital Participation.
How are ownership structures produced, reproduced, and legitimized in media? How do authoritarian (ownership) structures shape media constellations? And furthermore: What alternatives exist to accessing the world as proprietary appropriation, to the logic of owners, claims, and goods?
