Prof. Dr. Wolf-Tilo Balke

Project leader of "People, Digital Intelligence and Recycling – Shaping Urban Life Together"

Wolf-Tilo Balke currently heads the Institute for Information Systems (IfIS) as a full professor at Technische Universität Braunschweig, Germany, and serves as a director of L3S Research Center at Leibniz Universität Hannover, Germany. Before, he was associate research director at L3S and a research fellow at the University of California at Berkeley, USA. His research is in the area of databases and information systems, including personalized query processing, retrieval algorithms, deep learning and knowledge embeddings, as well as their application in Digital Libraries. In 2013 Wolf-Tilo Balke has been elected as a member of the Academia Europaea. He is the recipient of two Emmy-Noether-Grants of Excellence by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the Scientific Award of the University Foundation Augsburg, Germany. He has received his B.Sc and M.Sc degree in mathematics and a PhD in computer science from University of Augsburg, Germany.
