Education Day

Austrian National Library

'The Education Day initiative is a year-round series of events that culminates in an annual day of action on 8 December. On this day, partners from politics, civil society, business and the media can participate in a variety of ways to raise the visibility of the topic of education among the general public.

Education is a cornerstone for a self-determined life and goes far beyond school education! Without education, there is no future. The question of how we can raise and promote educational potential therefore becomes key.'

"It is not enough to appeal to the state - neither here nor in many other countries of the world. We can and must all contribute to better education. It takes the whole of society working together.

Often the public discourse on education is negative. The focus is then on problems or grievances rather than on what is already working well. Learning is also seen by many as a difficult challenge. We want to change that. Because lifelong learning is necessary to be able to face social changes and diverse problems.

Children and young people in particular are not actively involved enough in educational issues and are often only perceived as "consumers" of educational offers. The question of good education must continuously involve the learners and take their perspectives into account".
