Companion app: Accessibility and cultural participation
The Companion app is an innovative tool to promote cultural participation among people with intellectual disabilities. Developed by Ostfalia University under the direction of Prof. Sandra Verena Müller, it uses augmented reality to help people find their way around museums and other public spaces. Using landmark training, the app marks distinctive orientation points in the environment and thus facilitates navigation without complex cognitive processes. The app is being created in collaboration with people with disabilities, supported by partners such as Lebenshilfe Wolfsburg. Future areas of application range from museums to everyday life.
