Companion app: A focus on accessibility and cultural participation
The Companion app is an innovative tool to promote cultural participation for people with intellectual disabilities. Developed by Ostfalia University under the direction of Prof Dr Sandra Verena Müller, it uses augmented reality to help people find their way around museums and other public spaces. Based on landmark training, the app marks distinctive orientation points in the environment and thus facilitates navigation without complex cognitive processes. The app is being developed in co-creation with people with disabilities, supported by partners such as Lebenshilfe Wolfsburg. Future areas of application range from museums to everyday life.
