Click by click to flexible privacy management for health apps

Barbara Ferrarese, Fraunhofer ISI

The team of the PRIMA project, which aims to improve privacy management in health apps, met for the third time in November, this time hosted by the project partner Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences at the Leibniz Institute for Educational Media | Georg Eckert Institute  (GEI) in Braunschweig. The main aim was to present the results of the first interviews with patients and developers of health apps and to jointly embark upon the next phase.

The project team discussed the next steps that would enable innovative concepts for important areas of informed consent to be created, in the form of demonstrator programmes based on the interview results. The demonstrators were designed to address important patient needs, such as: What information is particularly important for patients and how can it be presented simply using images, audio or videos? How can icons and tables, for example, be used to indicate clearly and transparently where consent has already been given? To what extent do patients need to adapt their consent over time and how can they be encouraged to do so through gamification (e.g. avatars)?
