Prof. Dr.-Ing. Britta Wrede from Bielefeld University will speak on the topic “How intelligent assistance systems can respond to our emotions and attention.” The lecture will focus on how assistance systems – and in particular decision support systems – can be designed to provide comprehensible explanations and effectively support people in decision-making processes.

Research findings show that emotions influence how explanations are perceived, understood and remembered. In particular, when personal characteristics or opinions are addressed, emotional responses may arise that make it more difficult to process and retain information. The talk will present a system that responds to such emotional reactions by applying specific strategies aimed at enhancing understanding. It will also explore whether, and to what extent, human emotions should be incorporated into the decision-making processes of AI systems.

The lecture will take place at the Haus der Wissenschaft (5th floor), Pockelsstraße 11, 38106 Braunschweig.
